| At Schools for Children,
Inc., we have a long history of creating programs that explore
cutting edge approaches to educating, coaching and guiding
young people through the challenges of growing up in an increasingly
complex world.
Dearborn Academy is a Chapter
766 approved, psychoeducational day school serving children
and adolescents aged 6-22 with emotional, behavioral, and learning
disorders. Dearborn provides a comprehensive program that stresses
academic instruction and remediation, therapeutic intervention,
and social skills development. It traces its origins to 1949.
The Lesley Ellis School,
an independent day school for children in pre-school through
Grade 5, offers a progressive, developmental approach to learning
in all of its classrooms. They school places special emphasis
on small student-to-faculty ratios, foreign language instruction
starting at the youngest grade, and a comprehensive anti-bias/multicultural
curriculum. While the school traces its origins to 1889, its
official beginnings as the Lesley Ellis School are pegged at
1949.
One of our
newest initiatives is the Seaport Campus, our second Chapter
766 approved
day
school that serves students aged 14-18.The school combines
core academics with hands-on learning in a maritime setting.
This small alternative program is tailored to adolescents
who have lost interest in traditional studies and “gotten
lost” in large public high schools as a result of severe
learning disabilities and/or significant mental health problems.
